Here's another research tip for opening up doors on finding more ancestry information on George Emery Lyons Sr. and Ruth Hazel Sainsbury.

U.S. Social Security Death Index

The Social Security Death Index contains millions of names of deceased people who had social security numbers, had their deaths reported to the Social Security Administration, and died after 1962 (although there are some records as early as 1937). This index is free to search and can be found in a variety of places, one being www.familysearch.org.

Miracles Happen

After my son Leroy had our web site up and running he said that it would be fun to type in our ancestor, George Emery Lyons Sr., in a Google search to see what was there.  Wow!!! This fabulois web site on George Emery Lyons Sr. came up that is put together by Donald and Carolyn Engstrom.  Carolyn is my cousin that I haven't seen or talked to for over 20 years.  We got together for lunch at Leroy's and had a wonderful time.  Then Carolyn told me that her sister Bonnie lives in the same area that I do.  I called Bonnie and she said that 2 more of my cousins will be visiting in the next month.

Cemetery Records

In the Spring of 1979, my Grandmother (Naomi Beula Sloan Lyons) and my Mother (Geraldine Lyons) went to South Australia to gather more genealogical research. One of their highlights was the discovery of cemetery records for some of our SLOANs. (Check out our main genealogical research web site for more information by clicking here.)

35 and more Years of Research

geraldine's picture
In 4 1/2 days of scanning old Photos, Letters, Certificates and research papers from over 35 years we have organized and uploaded this information into this web site.  I am soooooo amazed.  I come from a different generation where I walked into the research library, copied and saved  the paper copies, certificates, etc. and now everything is on line on the computer.  This has been fun and exciting working with my son and his wife and my grand daughter.  Notice the picture on this blog of Salt Lake in 1940.

Going Through the Research

So Nana and I are just finishing going through all the research documents and papers and photos the she has collected throughout the years for the Lyons History. It was about 20 boxes of history we were able to condense down to 6. Yesterday Nana was able to visit with her cousin Carolyn. They had been out of touch for over a decade, and because of this 4 day project were able to finally connect again! It was a wonderful visit! We will continue to update lyonshistory website with new information and keep searching out our family lines.

We are continuing to update the site. Today about 50 new names got added and Nana located several documents including a will and several obituaries. Leroy is still uploading pictures that we scanned yesterday. This is sooo much fun! we're gonna have to do this again!

Getting the pictures on!

Yesterday Nana and I and Leroy worked all day scanning and organizing old photos for the site. We found some really fun pictures. Several were at the beach in the neatest swimsuits of four to five generations ago! We were also able to figure out more history form the notes that were on the back of the photos. What a blast!
